Florida’s 2025 Hearing Aid Law: What You Need to Know
Effective July 1, 2025, Florida law mandates that prescription hearing aids cannot be sold or distributed without a comprehensive, in-person hearing evaluation conducted by a licensed audiologist or hearing aid specialist. This legislation aims to ensure that individuals receive appropriate and personalized hearing care.
Required Hearing Tests in Florida
Under the new law, the following assessments are required before dispensing prescription hearing aids:
- Pure Tone Audiometry: Testing by air and bone conduction to determine the type and degree of hearing loss.
- Speech Audiometry: Utilizing a speech audiometer or master hearing aid to assess the most comfortable listening level and speech discrimination.
- Effective Masking: Applied when indicated to ensure accurate test results.
- Final Fitting: Ensuring the physical and operational comfort of the hearing aid for the patient.
For more details, refer to the official statute: Florida Statute 468.1225.
